3 Keys For Victory for Ole Miss against Tulane
1.Protect the football
Interceptions had not been a problem with Bo Wallace until the Texas game. Part of that was due to the Longhorns’ speed Wallace won’t face such talent today, but he needs to show the smarts and form that led to five touchdown passes and just one interception – that one off a batted ball as the result of a protection breakdown – in the first two weeks.
2.Acclimate
Yes, it’s Tulane. It’s easy to look at this week’s foe as underwhelming, but this is still the first road game for a number of key Ole Miss players including Wallace.The Rebels will have the different experience of indoor football, which could be off-set by the feeling of a home game. Tulane doesn’t draw well — though that number could rise a little today as its honors teammate Devon
Walker, who sustained a spine injury two weeks ago at Tulsa — and large numbers of Ole Miss fans usually make this trip. Groups of Ole Miss fans were all over the streets of New Orleans Friday.
3.Get in the backfield
The Rebels had good success over the first two weeks but couldn’t penetrate the Texas offensive line.
After totaling nine sacks and 20 tackles for loss against Central Arkansas and UTEP, the Rebels had no sacks and just one tackle for loss against Texas.
Disrupting the passing game at the point of origin will go a long way in helping a revamped secondary improve its pass defense numbers.
