Kennedy’s football side

Coaches dedicate their lives to a single sport, and it’s fun sometimes to talk another sport — any other sport — with them. In this case, it’s talking football with Ole Miss basketball coach Andy Kennedy, who is our guest picker in tomorrow’s edition of the Daily Journal.

The picks do not appear online but can be seen at the top of page 2 of the sports section.

Kennedy has a brief football history. He was the starting quarterback for a 7-1 ninth-grade team at Winston Academy in 1982. “After that it was all hoops,” he said.

Here are his picks:

Middle Tennessee at MSU — MSU
Virginia Tech at Clemson — Clemson
Michigan State at Michigan — Michigan
South Carolina at Florida — Florida
Alabama at Tennessee — Alabama
Auburn at Vanderbilt — Vanderbilt
LSU at Texas A&M — Texas A&M
Nebraska at Northwestern — Nebraska
Baylor at Texas — Texas
Kansas State at West Virginia — Kansas State
North Carolina at Duke — Duke
Marshall at Southern Miss — USM

He has a bit of pressure resting on his choices. We have an eight-member panel with seven staff members and a guest, the guest this season is 65-19 tied with Brad Locke for first place. I am third at 62-22.

It has been suggested to us that we seek out less intelligent guests.

I hope he makes picks better than he coaches basketball. Is there any coach has lower expectations that Ole Miss has for Kennedy?
