Highlights from Hugh Freeze’s time on the SEC teleconference. …
The open week was nice to get some kids healed up. There’s always a concern when you have that off time how they’ll respond and come back. Yesterday’s practice was a little sluggish but picked up as it went on. Arkansas is playing their best football of the year of late, and I know we’ll have a big challenge ahead of us.
(What problems do Arkansas present?)
in the games where they did not have turnovers and the quarterback was healthy they’ve been extremely impressive. They have one of the best quarterbacks in our league with talented receivers and running backs. It’s a great challenge to stop them. Even with their struggles they avearage quite a few yards offensively. Hopefully we can make them earn the points they get and they’re not big plays, and we’re very good in our red zone defense and hold them to field goals.
(On Ole Miss)
I couldn’t be more pleased with where we are at this point. We let one get away from us against A&M, but the attitude and effort, the kids are, what I would consider, over-achieving a bit this year. I’m not sure how we’ll handle this off week and going into another game, but I’m hopeful the leadership of our team will help us get ready for Saturday.
(Attitude of players)
It was after the Texas game. When we went to Tulane and played a solid first half there. The confidence grew enormously after the Alabama game in a very difficult environment. They competed and battled extremely hard there. The fact that they bounced back defensively from the Texas game and played very well in the next two has expedited our process hopefully.
(On Bo Wallace)
He’s hard on himself. He’s pretty resilient. He’s so competitive. The last two weeks he’s performed well with the exception of one throw.
(On Dave Wommack)
I have to have great trust in what’s going on in the defensive meeting rooms. I only meet with him twice a week and it’s just an overview of how they see things and the adjustments they will make. He’s very calm. He has a plan and has his adjustments. He was with me at Arkansas State for the turnaround. He’s the right fit for me.
