As his team prepares to face Ole Miss Saturday morning in Little Rock, Arkansas coach John L. Smith says the difference in the SEC is speed, and that’s especially clear with a sideline view. Here’s Smith from his Thursday post-practice presser. He says the Arkansas defense is not used to the speed it will see from the Ole Miss offense. …

From Gainesville, Florida coach Will Muschamp thought his emotional personality worked against his team at times in 2011. That’s something he’s worked to correct this year as the unbeaten Gators, No. 2 in the BCS rankings, take on Georgia in Jacksonville Saturday. The Gators’ dominant defense will get a test from Georgia quarterback Aaron Murray. Quick success for Georgia will be critical if the Bulldogs are to pick up a signature win. Florida will lean on running back Mike Gillislee. …

From Auburn, school president Jay Gogue calls for support for his struggling football team — which plays host to Texas A&M Saturday — but does not mention either coach Gene Chizik or AD Jay Jacobs. Columnist Kevin Scarbinsky writes that Auburn football needs more than a coaching change, it needs a regime change. A&M follows the Auburn game with two more road games — at Mississippi State and at Alabama. …
