Wednesday Practice Notes

By Hayden Sowers

Coming off the practice field Ole Miss coach Hugh Freeze sounded pleased with the 90-minute workout from his squad this evening, say, “Yeah we had a real good day today. We’re going to have to play a bunch of young kids though.”

The Rebels are getting ready for Saturday’s game at No. 7 Georgia.

  • Speaking of those young guys, look for CB Qunitavius Burdette and CB Mike Hilton to get extensive time again on Saturday as CB Senquez Golson (concussion) has yet to get cleared for practice and as Freeze said, “It’s getting late in the week.”
  • With Golson out of practice, former starting Husky Dehendrent Collins has been moved back to corner for this game, “Well he was there all spring, which was helpful, but he’s picked up on it pretty quick and we expect him to compete there Saturday,” Freeze said.
  • DL Isaac Gross was held out of practice today, but Freeze said he expects him back ready to go Saturday.
  • After practice Freeze was also asked about his reaction to ESPN’s 30 for 30 documentary, Ghosts of Ole Miss. “It was a powerful display of what really happened 50 years ago, and we thank God that we’ve moved way beyond that and we can be one family here at the University of Mississippi. I’ve coached here going on four years, and not one time has a single kid come to me with a single issue that they’ve had in that regard on this campus. It’s part of the history, not just of North Mississippi, but of the entire South. It’s not a time that anybody is proud of and we’re glad we’ve moved past that.”
