Wednesday Morning Update

Spanning the globe on a Wednesday morning. …

From Auburn, coach Gene Chizik refuses to comment on a possible NCAA investigation at his school. Chizik says his focus is helping the Tigers turn around their 1-7 start. In his attempt to that, he’s shuffled the lineup and will insert freshman Jonathan Wallace at quarterback this week. Wallace will become the Tigers’ third starting quarterback. …

Chizik is one of several SEC coaches with an uncertain future. The group includes Kentucky coach Joker Phillips, who has tried to keep it light when questioned about his future with the Wildcats. …

Jon Gruden’s name is front and center among the rumors of coaching turnover, particularly if there is an opening at Tennessee. Bleacher Report’s Barrett Sallee takes a look at the pros and cons Gruden with the Vols. …

From Columbia, Yahoo columnist Dan Wetzel calls Steve Spurrier on the carpet for Spurrier’s anti-Dabo Swinney comments after the Clemson coach had good things to say about injured South Carolina running back Marcus Lattimore. …

From ESPN’s Chris Low, LSU coach Les Miles has had success against Nick Saban, though it’s been overshadowed by a three-touchdown loss in last year’s BCS championship game. That BCS title game loss still motivates LSU. An interesting question is posed here by Jim Kleinpeter of the New Orleans Times-Picayune. Should Nick Saban, who won a national championship at LSU, be added to the LSU Hall of Fame? …

PA mark Richt has hi praise for your rebels:…….Richt discussed the Rebels, who have won consecutive SEC games, and the
challenges Ole Miss presents during the Bulldogs’ weekly press
conference earlier in the day on Tuesday.

    “They’re really excited
right now, and they’re winning,” Richt said. “They went 16 games in a
row and didn’t win a conference game, and then they came very close to
beating Texas A&M. It was kind of a heartbreaking loss for them, but
then they ended up winning the next two league games. They’re just
    doing it in great fashion.

“Their offense is really high tempo
and very productive,” Richt added. “They’ve already scored more points,
had more first downs, had more touchdowns, more passing yards and just
about every stat that you could have. They’ve had more of that now in
eight games than they had all of last season, so it’s very impressive.
On defense, they went with the youth movement………

They lead the SEC East at present, so an Ole Miss win would be good for the Gators.
