Vanderbilt has won three in a row and four of its last five heading into this week’s matchup with Ole Miss in Oxford. Kickoff is 6 p.m., and the game will be televised by ESPNU.
Like Ole Miss, Vandy will become bowl-eligible with a win. The Commodores also have two more chances after this weekend with games against Tennessee and Wake Forest, while Ole Miss has remaining games against rivals LSU and Mississippi State.
Some interesting numbers of note, after nine games Vanderbilt is ranked 14th in the country, fourth in the SEC in scoring defense with 17.11 points per game allowed.
Vandy is 19th in total defense, fifth in the SEC, at 316.22 yards per game allowed. Most of that success has come with its pass defense where the Commdores are seventh nationally and fourth in the league with a 99.61 efficiency rating.
On the ground, Vandy is 68th in rushing defense, 10th in the SEC with 164.33 yards per game allowed.
Here are some links of interest from Vanderbilt’s 40-0 win over Kentucky. Note the UK attendance story which is reminiscent of the Ole Miss-Northwestern State game in 2007.
