Spanning the globe and the SEC hotseats on a Monday morning …

From Knoxville, there’s been no announcement on a change at Tennessee where Derek Dooley dropped to 4-18 in SEC games when the Vols in overtime lost an early lead against Missouri. But nothing in the tea leaves suggest Dooley will be back. Of course Jon Gruden’s name is atop the wish list for Tennessee fans, others too, but would the Vols go after a Louisiana Tech coach for a second-straight hiring? …

From Auburn, Gene Chizik doesn’t feel like he’s “lost” the Tigers, even though Auburn’s lop-sided loss to Georgia in the Deep South’s oldest rivalry dropped them to 0-7 in the league and a likely Iron Bowl loss away from a winless SEC season. On his Sunday afternoon teleconference, Chizik said he’s confident he can return Auburn to its winning ways. …

From Baton Rouge, as Ole Miss visits LSU this week the Rebels could be catching a Tigers offense hitting its stride. It was thought by many around LSU that Zach Mettenberger would step in and lead a passing revival from the get-go. It took Mettenberger a while to get going, but he’s described in this account as “suddenly sizzling.”

From College Station, Johnny Manziel may have won more than a football game at Alabama. A redshirt freshman winning the Heisman? It could happen. Only three in the history of the award have reached New York as finalists. …
