FINAL: Ole Miss 90, Coastal Carolina 72

Andy Kennedy lit a fire under his players at halftime. Players said they were a little caught off guard by how hard Coastal went to the glass.

Ole Miss was plus-3 on the glass in the second half but still finished minus-5 for the game.

Kennedy wasn’t happy with the fact that Reggie Buckner had only two rebounds. Buckner did some other good things, though, hitting two free throws on one trip and driving on the floor for loose balls.

Marshall Henderson finished with 27 and was big with his passing and assists as the Rebels began to pull away. Henderson was 8-for-17 from the floor, 6-for-17 from 3.

Derrick Millinghaus started at point over Jarvis Summers because Summers has had a minor knee injury and missed practice. Summers played 24 minutes off the bench and had 9 points, 6 assists and no turnovers.

Murphy Holloway (15 points, 12 rebounds), Nick Williams (11 points) and Aaron Jones (10 points) joined Henderson in double figures.

Coastal has been tough and physical in the lane, and the Rebels have been slow to respond. Coastal is outrebounding the Rebels 22-14.

Coastal shooting 48.4 percent to the Rebels’ 45.5

Marshall Henderson was hot early and has slowed a bit. He’s 3-for-7 from 3, Nick Williams is 2-for-4 there, and Ole Miss 5-for-15 as a team. Henderson has 13 points on 5-for-10 shooting. Murphy Holloway 8 points, 5 rebounds, 4-for-5 shooting.

Ole Miss has turned the ball over nine times, forced only five.

Lots of different lineups int he first half. One that included Martavious Newby  and Henderson brought a spark for a while. Newby has four points, assist, steal, no rebounds in seven minutes.

Derrick Millinghaus started at the point and played 12 minutes, while Jarvis Summers played 11 off the bench.

Settling in at Tad Smith here.

Coastal is 1-0 with a 74-70 overtime win over Akron to start. The Chanticleers are coached by Cliff Ellis, formerly of Auburn.

From the mother ship, our feature on Ole Miss juco transfer guard Marshall Henderson, which appeared this morning.
