Here are those notes:
- Recovery from a slightly torn MCL is going well for freshman guard Derrick Millinghaus. He is expected back in Kennedy’s words some time before the team leaves the “lower 48″ and heads to Hawaii over Christmas. The Rebels are in Hawaii Dec. 22-25. My best guess for a Millinghaus return would be Dec. 14 against East Tennessee State or Dec. 19 at Loyola-Marymount, a stop-over on the way to paradise.
- No change in the status of junior college transfer Jason Carter, who remains suspended. Kennedy talked about Carter more than he has in the past, though, saying he’s making progress in doing the things he need to regain good standing. Kennedy has described Carter as a legitimate 3-point shooter who at 6-8 is a matchup problem for opponents, whenever the opponents see him.
- Kennedy is pleased that five games in he has 11 players averaging double figures in minutes. That can’t go on, of course. How the minutes play out will be determined strictly by productivity, Kennedy says, adding that he wouldn’t be surprised to see 10 of those guys (minus Millinghaus) get in the game Saturday against Rutgers.
- The Rebels currently lead the nation in scoring margin at plus-33.2 points and are fifth in scoring offense at 88.4. They’re eager for a step up in competition Saturday against Rutgers.
“We haven’t played the hardest of teams, and we know that,” Murphy Holloway said.
