I spoke earlier in the week with Andrew Roberts, who has become the manager/spokesman for the muscial group King Kobraz in its sudden rise in popularity.
Donte Moncrief has had something to do with that rise.
Kobraz produced the song and video “Rebelz” which is better known by its unofficial name “Feed Moncrief.”
The video went live on Nov. 20, the Tuesday before the Egg Bowl. It was ready and could have been released earlier. The group was hoping its release would be timed with an upset win at LSU by the Rebels, and that almost happened in a perfect way with a huge game from Moncrief.
“It felt kind of weird watching that (LSU game) as not only a fan but kind of like a stakeholder in the team,” Roberts said. “We had more at stake than just the game.”
When the upset didn’t happen, the decision was made to give fans a few days to recover emotionally then release Rebelz in part of the run-up to the Egg Bowl.
Moncrief did his part against Mississippi State with another monster game. He was well-fed and finished with seven catches for 173 yards and three touchdowns.
Hugh Freeze re-tweeted the link to the video during the week, but the hits began to pile up after the video was played during the Egg Bowl. Presently it’s received more than 64,000 views. Here’s the link.
More on the group and the song in Friday’s Daily Journal.
