Ole Miss AD Ross Bjork told me last week he was looking at restructuring the contact for Rebels coach Hugh Freeze.
Bjork says that an announcement “on a new structure could come within the coming days.”
Bjork says it’s important to be proactive with salaries – not only for Freeze but his assistants – in a “landscape that shifts by the hour.”
Freeze makes $1.5 million a year in a deal that is heavy with incentives including an additional $100,000 per SEC win. There were three of those this year. He gets bonus money for making a bowl game too.
Freeze says he’s not had any communication with Bjork about the contract. He is represented by Jimmy Sexton of Memphis.
“I’ve not had any conversations with Ross about that. I do know they have talked, and I have not one time said I needed anything. If they decide to do that for me and my staff, that’s great. I’m indebted to have the job that I have, and I want to continue to build. The last thing I really want to do right now is to start acting like I deserve something. Whatever they decide I’m going to be OK with,” Freeze said.
