Nkemdiche second-team All-SEC

The Associated Press All-SEC team was released earlier this afternoon.

Redshirt freshman linebacker Denzel Nkemdiche, on the second team, was the only Ole Miss mention.

This is not totally surprising. Donte Moncrief is one of the top receivers in the SEC, but he went through a lag where he wasn’t getting in the end zone. He had six touchdowns in SEC play, five in the last two games.

There had been some mention of Hugh Freeze as a coach of the year candidate. This was a tough year to be in that conversation. As impressive as was the job Freeze did inheriting a downtrodden program, he was going up against Nick Saban, whose team was dominant much of the year and is in the BCS championship game, against Kevin Sumlin, a first-year coach like Freeze, who beat Saban and turned a 6-6 team into a 10-2 team with a likely Heisman winner, and James Fanklin, who won eight games, five in the SEC, at Vanderbilt.

The AP team is chosen by vote of AP members who cover the league. I have voted before but did not this year. Brad Locke represented our paper.
