No Rebels on coaches All-SEC team

Ole Miss redshirt freshman linebacker Denzel Nkemdiche made the All-SEC second team when The Associated Press released its team on Monday.

The coaches released their all-conference picks on Tuesday with no mention of Ole Miss. They picked a first and second team, no honorable mention selections.

The individual award winners will be released on Wednesday, and the all-freshman team will be announced on Thursday.

You would think the Rebels would show up on the all-freshman team with Nkemdiche and defensive tackle Issac Gross, a true freshman.

    Media and coaches have Banks 1st Team All SEC and 2nd Team All American and you voted the 11th best QB in the SEC for the Conerly Trophy. You sure know you football.

      I agree with Mr. Alford. If you need it broken down further – most of the stats that got Jonathan Banks noticed were against ‘We know we can beat them’ competition as opposed to ‘We believe’. competition.

    Bo Wallace needed more than my vote, which I stand by, to
    win the Conerly.

    Johnthan Banks had four interceptions this season and broke
    up seven passes.

    Banks had two interceptions in SEC play, and only three of his
    pass break-ups were against the league.

    Banks did most of his work against a non-conference schedule
    that wasn’t very challenging.

    As far as a head-to-head match-up, Bo Wallace threw two
    interceptions against MSU, neither to a member of the secondary but both to Cam
    Lawrence, who is State’s best defender.

    Banks under-achieved. His tackles for loss, sacks and forced
    fumbles were also down. I voted him for the AP All-SEC team last year when he
    had a better year.

      Like I said outside of the Ole Miss favored MS media, Ole Miss players win nothing. Only one 2nd team All SEC in media and SEC coaches pick no one on the Rebels squad. I disagree with that because Moncrief is one of the best players in the SEC but in no way is Wallace an elite player. Color it any way you want that is a fact. Had Moncrief been the Ole Miss player nominated and he won, I would be OK with that. Great year and he won the battle with MSU’s secondary. Just no facts as to how Wallace had a better year than Banks having an average year that puts him 1st team All SEC and 2nd team All American.

    No. 1, this was not a year that Ole Miss was going to have a lot of individual award winners. What Ole Miss achieved this year was more about coaching than individual talent. Regarding the Conerly, people have their own reasons for voting as they vote. Apparently, many voters put a great deal of stock into the head-to-head match-up. There was a deadline for schools to submit their Conerly nominee, and I suspect that deadline influenced the choice for Ole Miss of Bo Wallace over Donte Moncrief. As far as Banks, he’s All-SEC and All-American, because someone voted him to be such. Ultimately, you are what your numbers say you are. This was not his best season. He will be a high draft pick for someone, because the draft is based on potential not college production. He will be a good pro if he gets with a coach and gets in a system that helps him realize that potential.

    Plus Mr. Alford Johnathan Banks crappy year just earned him the Thorpe Award for best DB in America. Now you can admit how dumb your vote was or keep being ignorant of facts that Banks is a heck of a lot better football player than Wallace

      Extremely happy for Banks, but let’s be logical about this. The Conerly Trophy generally is awarded to someone the offensive side. Only four defensive players have won since its inception in 1996. Not saying that’s right but it seems more consideration is given to a player on offense. Also the inside track seems to go with a offensive player nominated from one of the the State Big 3. With that being said, the image which was left from the Egg Bowl carried a lot of weight. So, the Conerly Trophy has no restrictions as far as position goes while the Thorpe Award in strictly for DB’s. Good to see a Mississippi player get recognized with such a prestigious award. By the way, you and I both misspelled Mr. Banks first name which has only one ‘A’.

    Rat, you may be correct. Banks may be a much better football player than Bo Wallace. He may prove that over time with a lengthy NFL career. He didn’t have a very good game against Wallace in Oxford, which I suspect factored into the Conerly voting as well as his numbers on the season.
