Junior college transfer Jason Carter has been dismissed from the Ole Miss basketball team.
Carter, the No. 107-rated player by Rivals.com when he signed with Alabama out of high school, began the season on Andy Kennedy’s suspension list and never got off.
The news release said Carter was dismissed for “a violation of team rules.”
Just last week Kennedy indicated that Carter was making progress toward a good standing in his coach’s eyes which would allow him to play. When we asked about Carter’s status at Wednesday’s presser, Kennedy said only that Carter was still suspended and quickly moved to another topic.
It’s a good class of newcomers that Kennedy has added to this team, but Carter was expected to be a key part, a 6-8 guy who could step out and hit the 3 and create match-up problems for a defense.
Better to never know what Carter might have been than to deal with a potential disruptive presence for team chemistry as Kennedy did last year with Jelan Kendrick.
