Update from our friend Hayden Sowers while Parrish is on vacation …
Ole Miss continued bowl preparations on Wednesday morning here are a few observations I have after watching Monday and Wednesday practices:
- WR Donte Moncrief is poised for a breakout season next year, and it wouldn’t surprise to see him set school records next year. I’ve noticed a change in Donte’s demeanor after the LSU and Mississippi State games. He has turned into more of a vocal leader, for example, today he repeatedly reminding the other receivers that “we are going to be the SEC’s top wide receiveing corp next year”, and couple that with the fact that he looks to have built on the last two games of the regular season look for Donte to set the bar next year for SEC wide receivers. Today he caught an impressive 55 yard TD over Senquez Golson on a pass from Barry Brunett
- With QB Bo Wallace out resting his shoulder, QB Maikhail Miller has gotten the 2nd team reps and color me impressed. Miller has completely transformed his body under S&C Coach Paul Jackson, a legit 6’4” 250 lbs, and he posses the best deep ball of any QB on the roster. In the pass skeleton drill Miller’s balls were sharp and on the money and then during team drills Miller ran through MLB Keith Lewis on a QB draw Monday to give the offense the win in the competition. Hugh Freeze has talked in the past about how he believes Miller has a bright future at the QB position.
- Some chippy play occurred towards the end of practice today during team drills with C Evan Swindall and DE CJ Johnson participating in some extracurricular activities after the whistle. Johnson did not look happy and he went on to get sacks on three out of the next four plays, showing some of the great pass rushing potential that he has. On the last play Johnson bull rushed LT Emanuel McCray and sent McCray to the ground. Another year with DL Coach Chris Kiffin and Johnson could put up serious numbers.
