Just pulled into Knoxville and will find the hotel after a quick lunch.
There was rain when I started out from Tupelo. It rained the entire way, and it’s raining still. The ride was largely uneventful, the best kind. Lots of trucks, which makes things difficult at times.
I was thinking of the matchups for tonight’s Ole Miss-Tennessee game driving over. The Rebels will be glad they don’t have to contend with Jeronne Maymon after Maymon pulled down 28 rebounds in two games against Ole Miss last year. The Vols haven’t had Maymon all year, so they haven’t had to adjust on the fly. In his absence they’ve been OK on the boards, carrying a plus-5.5 rebound margin into SEC play.
Should be an interesting matchup of 3-point shooters tonight. Skylar McBee was a role player for Tennessee last year, a starter this year. He’s shooting 30.0 percent from 3. Marshall Henderson for Ole Miss has rallied from a four-game slump during which he shot 21.7 percent from 3 to shoot 44.8 percent over his last five games. Henderson is shooting 37.7 percent from the arc for the year.
Ole Miss is 11-2. Tennessee is 8-4, but the Vols have played a more difficult schedule.
