Gilbert Pena is on the “Stars” roster for the Raycom College Football All-Star Classic.
Pena, a nose tackle for Ole Miss, was really playing well at the end of the season. This is a good opportunity for a good guy who didn’t take the traditional road to college football but stayed with it — dealing with a huge culture change going from New York City to Oxford — and was a solid player in 2012 after an average debut as a first-year junior college transfer in 2011.
We visited with Pena during bowl practice and talked more with Hugh Freeze about him. Pena is appreciative to have an opportunity to play in front of NFL scouts, and Freeze is optimistic than Pena will get a chance at the next level.
