Friday Morning Update

Spanning the globe on a Friday morning …

Ole Miss will play its first game without injured reserves Aaron Jones and Nick Williams Saturday night at Florida. It’s possible Williams could be back for Mississippi State at home on Wednesday.

It’s a 6 p.m. start on ESPNU. Ole Miss is 6-13 against Florida with Billy Donovan as the Gators’ coach. The Rebels haven’t beaten Florida since 2008. …

Speaking of injuries, this time in baseball, Tupelo native John Gatlin is out for several weeks after sustaining dislocated shoulder this week. Gatlin was in the running to be the Rebels’ starting second baseman. That position became the question mark of the infield after signee Chase Nyman chose to attend junior college.

On the recruiting front, Robert Nkemdiche apparently shared with his Twitter followers last night the breaking news that he will visit LSU this weekend

Nkemdiche, Laremy Tunsil and Tony Conner will make Signing Day announcements on ESPNU. Houston defensive end Chris Jones will also announce on Signing Day.

Elsewhere …

Alabama defeated Arkansas 59-56 Thursday night in another close, low-scoring affair as the Crimson Tide improved to 5-2 in the SEC before what was described as disinterested home fans. …

From Athens, Georgia defeated Auburn to win for the third time in four games, while Auburn lost its fifth straight. …

From New Orleans, Archie Manning has been honored for his charity work. …
