It is my belief that Ole Miss had a more productive recruiting program under Johnny Vaught than at present. The Memphis Commerical Appeal always gave the Rebels good press coverage since many of the recruits came from Memphis and surrounding areas of Arkansas. The great crop of recruits from MIssissippi wanted to come to Ole Miss because they knew that would be national winners under Coach Vaught and his program. Football players from the Jackson area, gulf coast, and piney woods area up to Oxford. Ole Miss played many home games in those days at Jackson and at Crump Stadium,in Memphis. Alabama Crimson Tide no challenge in those days The Bear was at U of Kentucky, but the Rebels had their number and beat them regularly. if memory serve me correctly I believe a tie game with Kentucky and victory over #1 Maryland for an undefeated season was the send off of Ole Miss winning tradition. That was many full moons past and much water has passed under the Yocona, Tallahatchie, and yazoo river bridges since those days of Rebel stardom. JB

Ole Mi$$ hoops looking at going 3 and 5 these last 8 games. That would be losing 8 out of their last 12 games and that is how you spell….wait for it….NIT…

    After watching the game yesterday, the Rebels had no come back what soever. in basketball games about 40-45 percent in field goals is about average, Mo was shooting over 45 percent in first half Rebels shooting like 27 29 percent. Ole miss should have bettered that average in second half but did not, Missouri kept up their hot shooting and beat the Rebs very badly.. So in my thinking that will happen to Ole Miss again in the next 8 game unless they improve their field goal percentage. JB

    He could be correct. The school beneath us COULD win 8 in a row. Of course, neither will happen.

PA, remembering the tweet about which you reported where the MSU position coach falsely announced that an Ole Miss position coach was leaving – was there ever any comment from the MSU administration or AD on that episode? Were they ever even asked for a comment on this practice? Coach Freeze mentioned all the negatives that were thrown at our recruits, but this seemed to be the most widely known instance.

Redreb, I don’t recall a comment from the MSU side on that, but I believe that tweet was quickly removed. I don’t believe it was a “practice” but an error in judgment. I was surprised to see that from any opposing coach, much less someone who has been a head coach and has had more experience than most assistants in dealing with the public.

Thanks PA. Like many, I seldom post, but I read your blog daily. Really appreciate your insight, and your dedication. Now, if you could only encourage Buell Dagg to spend his energy supporting his team, instead of attacking another…………
