Rebels fourth in SEC West

In a recent conversation Ole Miss hitting coach Cliff Godwin told me he thought some opponents might “sleep on” on the Ole Miss offense this season.

It appears the SEC coaches are doing that off the bat, picking the Rebels fourth in the Western Division. Behind Arkansas, LSU and Mississippi State. After Ole Miss, the rest of the division goes Texas A&M, Alabama and Auburn.

According to the SEC release, points were compiled on a 7-6-5-4-3-2-1 basis for each division. Coaches were not allowed to vote for their own team. Each coach also voted for one team as an overall conference champion.

With 59 points MSU was much closer to Ole Miss (54) than LSU (75). Texas A&M is right there close too with 51 points.

The Rebels return two weekend starters in Bobby Wahl and Mike Mayers. The No. 3 starter is Chris Ellis as the season begins. Ellis had a 2.84 ERA in 31.2 innings last year but had just a 9.00 ERA in eight SEC innings.
