Comments from Texas A&M basketball coach Billy Kennedy, no relation to Andy Kennedy, who calls Ole Miss the best offensive team in the SEC right now. He makes reference to the Rebels’ free throw shooting which sometimes is good, sometimes not.

The Rebels and Aggies tip tonight at 6 in College Station.

The Aggies may have a typical intimidating road environment for the first visit from Ole Miss, but it won’t be without some effort on the part of the administration in College Station. Ticket prices have been slashed for this game. …

Shifting gears to football, as most people in these parts do quickly, the rivalry between Texas and Texas A&M may no longer be played on the field, but it’s continually played in the hearts and minds as with this Texas site’s commentary on the rise of Texas A&M.

Speaking of the Aggies and football, after his dynamic first season as coach, Kevin Sumlin has been honored by being named the grand marshal of the rodeo parade in Houston.

Speaking of recruiting, and recruiting is always there to be spoken of, not only did the Rebels gain a commitment from Lafayette County star D.K. Buford for the 2014 class Tuesday night, the Rebels’ got back in the Twitter conversation over the weekend when a four-star linebacker prospect from Illinois, Clifton Garrett, tweeted that he had received 54 hand-written letters from Ole Miss in on Saturday mailing.

Randy Smith, a veteran of sports media in Tennessee, speaks favorably of the Ole Miss recruiting efforts here and says it’s wrong to make an assumption of impropriety. …
