The Rebels still struggle to put big runs on the board, but the story here was defense. It would have been another game in which Ole Miss would have scored just a little bit and won had the Rebels not committed six errors, a record for the Bianco Era at Ole Miss.
Instead it was the first loss as Ole Miss dropped to 7-1.
Three of Memphis’ four runs were unearned including the game-winner on a throwing error by Ole Miss shortstop Austin Anderson in a 3-3 game in the eighth.
Second baseman Lance Wilson had two hits, the only multiple hitter for Ole Miss.
Josh Laxer started the game and gave up four hits and three walks in three innings. He gave up two runs, one earned.
Matt Denny, Scott Weathersby and Tanner Bailey pitched from the bullpen with no earned runs allowed. Denny and Weathersby gave up unearned runs.
The Rebels are back in action Wednesday at 4 against Arkansas-Pine Bluff.
