Ole Miss baseball will be back in action in just a few hours with an 11 a.m., start in the second game against Southeastern Louisiana.
The Lions came in with a top 10 RPI, and after Tuesday’s 2-0 win by Ole Miss the Rebels have climbed to 14 in the RPI according to Boyd’s World and 16 according to Warren Nolan.
Four Ole Miss pitchers combined on the shutout yesterday with Josh Laxer getting the win, his first, after a 5.1-inning performance. He scattered four hits and two walks an struck out one.
The Rebels improved to 12-1. They had only five hits, one of those a home run by Austin Anderson, another an RBI double by Stuart Turner, his seventh of the year.
It’s a new twist at the ballpark today, the “school day” game for baseball. This has been popular with women’s basketball for a few years. A number of local school kids will be at the game, no doubt wrapped up and shivering with day-time highs not expected to reach 50.
For the kids, though, I suspect a cold day at the ballpark is better than a warm day at school. Just wrap up, and bring a blanket.
