Alabama just defeated Tennessee 58-48 which is a good thing for Ole Miss’ bubble status. Joe Lunardi had the Vols among his last four in, the Rebels among his first four out.

The Ole Miss-Missouri game could possibly be a win-and-you’re-in game for the Rebels.

The questioning in Illinois is wrapping up today, then it’s on to Tennessee. Haven’t heard yet what may have been uncovered in Joliet this week.

Not once has Parrish acknowledged that Coach Kennedy was named, SEC coach of the year, by NBC Sports. You can go on line and make it known that Rebel fan support our Coach!!! Go Rebels!

    Alford, just don’t like Kennedy! Kennedy is not a politician and he is not a “slap your back,” “kiss the media kind of guy,” but he can coach. Most the people who run down a coach…NEVER played the game on a high level. PE ball..loll

      Coaches should be successful to retain their job. Success in college basketball is measured by making the NCAA tourney. Kennedy has not done that yet. He may be a great coach, but his kids play stupid and selfish much of the time. Winning 20 games really means nothing when it comes to making the big money. I hope he makes the tourney this year and many years to come, but that will always be the yardstick by which we measure success.

      Did you ever think it was you not liking Alford or his style of writing? You’ve already be proven wrong once. He did mention it the Coach of the Year honor. It’s possible that it’s your interpretation of what’s written. If you already have a preconceived notion before you start reading an article, then whatever you read is never good enough. Once again, the sugarcoated, watered-down version is always on that school’s website.

        I think he explained the award IS NOT from the ‘big boys’ (The SEC Coaches or Associated Press). It’s from NBC Sports and worth mentioning, but not worth beating in the ground. Coming from them, it’s like Mrs. Suzy’s kindergarten class naming Joe the Plummer Citizen of the Year. Things are looking good for the Rebels, NCAA tournament-wise, and all you can do is focus on something that doesn’t carry a lot of weight. Please let it go and lets all try to show a unified front in support of the Rebels.

        Please, don’t bother trying. Went back and read where you said you played at Ole Miss from ’64-68 and that told me your age. I went way out of my league. PA mentioned the Coach of the Year. It just wasn’t where you want it to be. But if it will prevent cardiac arrest from happening, I wish he would in an article just once. This should be a happy time for Ole Miss and logically speaking, the negative aspects should come from a Rebel hater but you’ve added a new twist. You’re right, this is a blog and it’s public. It accepts comments from anyone. A private matter would be better suited via email or twitter. You seem to respond to quite a few other than me…so guess who’s in the minority.

  I would argue that he hasn’t been critical enough. The truth is probably in the middle, where it should be.
  
  No coach in America has lower expectations placed on them – and Kennedy lives down to them each year. It’s time for a change.

    Do you have a resume on who can coach and who can’t coach, Doug? I coached high school for 11 years and played for the Ole Miss (64-68). What part of his coaching that you don’t like? Defense, offense, recruiting, etc. 20 wins 6 years in a row, won more games than any other coach, Coach of the Year, etc. If you’re going to make a case, let get down the “nuts and bolts” of the matter.

Sorry I’m late to the party on this conversation. Nine o’clock tips tend to steer your attention elsewhere. As Matchbox points out, I did in fact post the coach of the year recognition as soon as I learned about it.

Any time anyone calls you “coach of the year” it’s notable, but if it comes from the SEC coaches or the AP it will generate more coverage.

That does not diminish Kennedy’s season. He tied a school record with 12 SEC regular season wins. In this particular environment that alone would not have gotten Ole Miss into the NCAAs. Kennedy is also responsible for the losses at South Carolina and MSU. The league is in a weakened state right now, and beyond Florida there aren’t any teams you look at and think “good loss,” but the losses to South Carolina and MSU, given the state of their programs, were particularly bad.

Andy Kennedy is the most media savvy coach I’ve ever covered. He has repeatedly accepted responsibility for the losses — as he did in very pointed comments after the MSU game — and shared credit for the wins.

I just try to lay the facts out there. This particular season the facts are that Ole Miss can be really, really good, but lapses in certain games have placed them on the bubble.

Successful coaches are judged by whether they make the NCAA tournament. Kennedy knows this and has stated it to us on numerous occasions. It’s not an unreasonable expectation at Ole Miss.

Hopefully he and the Rebels will make it this year. Maybe a win today locks it up. Maybe last night’s win was enough. We’ll know tomorrow evening.

  I think PA has been too easy on AK myself. Yes, he has had 20 win seasons but most of them come from non-SEC poor RPI teams. Last night was impressive and fun to watch. The problem with Kennedy is consistency and being able to make adjustments during the game. Last night I noticed him say, “play basketball,” and “keep your mouth shut Marshall” several times. He has been a players coach and more of a friend to his players, than a coach. Reminds me of HDN trying to go from friend to disciplinarian.
  
  I ask the question last week, are we getting our money’s worth with AK? We have to compare with other Universities that win SEC titles and get to the dance. I don’t know the answer to this, but I know he has never been to the dance, never won the SEC. That alone is cause for re-evaluation unless you are content with mediocrity.
  
  Attacking Alford as being too hard on AK is baseless. If anything, PA is a bit shy to ask hard questions. He doesn’t like to ruffle feathers or get too involved in the media circus and would rather gather his information from listening rather than asking. It’s just not his style to get in a heated exchange with a coach. He just reports the basic facts. The facts in the case of AK are no SEC champ and no NCAA dance. I hope both those facts change and sooner rather than later.

        I’m hoping that Coach Kennedy will give strong consideration to keeping LaDarious White at the point guard. He looks like a natural. He doesn’t force thing, handled the press, made good decisions, took good shots, and when he has the ball..he projects a certain confidence that Jarvis doesn’t.

        True. Lots of guys my age don’t realize there’s more to a game than scoring. There are so many things that are not projected in a score book that makes a team work as a unit.

        Both Millinghaus and Summers look for the shot first and then the pass. Always wanted my point guard to be the opposite. A good point guard that is a coach on the floor is the most valuable player on the team.
