Monday Night Football

Some highlights from spring football under the lights.

The Mannings were in attendance: Archie, Eli and Cooper. The only one missing was Peyton.

Lots of work in the passing game. Hugh Freeze called his quarterback play inconsistent. Not totally unexpected with Bo Wallace out. Barry Brunetti was late to practice. We didn’t ask why, but guys coming and going is not uncommon. There lots of respect for Maikhail Miller who showed off his arm strength.

Some plays that stood out. I’Tavius Mathers had a nice touchdown run right up the middle in Period 4. Jeff Scott had one on what looked like the same play much later in the scrimmage.

It wasn’t all success in the run game. Juco transfer defensive lineman Lavon Hooks and sophomore end Channing Ward had some big stops against the run.

Senquez Golson showed his athleticism with a quick reaction for a pass break-up and by chasing down a back on a screen pass. Later in the workout Golson overplayed Ja-Mes Logan on a slant and got an ear full from new cornerbacks coach Jason Jones.

In pass scale work Miller completed a deep ball to Cody Core with Anthony Standifer covering. Later in the workout Standifer and Core were in the end zone again with Standifer getting the PBU.

The only one missing was Peyton.I guess Peyton’s alliance is to UT since he chose it over OM. I believe this coming football season for the Rebels will be an exciting one – back to the once was – a winning tradition. JB
