Monday Morning Update

Spanning the globe on a Monday morning …

Spring football nears its end. Ole Miss will wrap things up Saturday with the Grove Bowl. Looking back, here’s a USA Today take on the Rebels at the beginning of spring drills.

The quest for depth has indeed been the main issue. There seems to have been more progress made on defense at defensive line and safety than on offense. I’m thinking mostly of wide receiver. Depth looks strong at running back.

The Rebels will be back on the practice field this morning, and I’ll have updates on the blog afterward. …

Vanderbilt, with its three-game sweep at Ole Miss, and LSU have separated themselves in the SEC baseball race. LSU won three times this weekend in Baton Rouge against Kentucky. None of the games were close. Kentucky was a top 10 team going into the series.

Ole Miss, swept at home for the first time since 2010, is in Pearl against Mississippi State Tuesday and back home this weekend against Alabama. …

Georgia concluded its spring drills over the weekend, and quarterback Aaron Murray had a nice scrimmage. ….

Alabama coach Nick Saban saw some bright spots but not enough in his first spring scrimmage. …

Kentucky is working to develop depth at linebacker this spring. …
