Henderson reprimanded by NCAA

by John Luke McCord

On Wednesday morning the NCAA released a public reprimand of Marshall Henderson for making an “inappropriate gesture” concluding the Rebels’ season ending loss to LaSalle. On Monday, Andy Kennedy talked about Henderson and the maturity he has gained this offseason and how he is taking more of a leadership role with the current team. Here is what Kennedy had to say:

““He really appreciates his opportunity. He loves college basketball and appreciates the opportunity that Ole Miss has given him.I always say that the most improvement comes from year one to two, whether that is a freshman becoming a sophomore or a junior becoming a senior.”

The Associated Press released this statement following the NCAA’s reprimand:

OXFORD, Miss. – Ole Miss guard Marshall Henderson received a public reprimand from the NCAA on Wednesday because of his actions following a third-round loss during the NCAA tournament in March.

The NCAA said Henderson made an “inappropriate gesture” toward the crowd after losing to LaSalle.
Henderson averaged more than 20 points per game last season as the Rebels advanced to the NCAA tournament for the first time since 2002, but was also a lightning rod for criticism because of his boisterous on-court personality.

Ole Miss released a statement from basketball coach Andy Kennedy on Wednesday, saying Henderson had “accepted responsibility for his actions, and we are moving forward. We understand and appreciate the NCAA’s stance on unsportsmanlike behavior.”
