This could be a big week for Ole Miss in recruiting. The top recruit in the state of Mississippi for the 2014 cycle, Rod Taylor, will announce his commitment at his school Wednesday, July 10th at 3 p.m.
Taylor recently attended a recruiting combine in Oregon called the Opening. It was there that he told Charles Power of BamaOnline.com that he would be announcing this week and named Ole Miss his leader with Alabama close behind.
It has long been a battle between Ole Miss and Alabama. While many believed last Fall that Alabama held the lead, a coaching change for Alabama opened the door for Hugh Freeze and staff and they haven’t looked back since. Taylor received offers from coast to coach and even holds an offer from in-state school Mississippi State, but his attention never left Alabama and Ole Miss.
Taylor is the consensus top player in the state and one of the top guards in the country. Scout.com ranks him as the second best offensive guard in the country. Rivals.com ranks him as the ninth best offensive tackle in the country. 247sports even ranks Taylor as the nation’s best offensive guard prospect. Each of the three services has him as the top recruit in the Magnolia state. Taylor stands at 6-4 305 and holds offers from Alabama, Ole Miss, Mississippi State, Georgia, LSU, Texas and USC, among others.
Two of Taylor’s teammates, Ronald Walker and Dayall Harris, are already committed to the Rebels. A third teammate of Taylor, Breeland Speaks is also a big time target for the Rebels and he also appears to favor Ole Miss.
