Sanders out with broken collarbone

Wide receiver Vince Sanders left practice early today with what has now been confirmed as a broken collarbone.

Surgery is scheduled for Tuesday, and Sanders is expected to miss six to eight weeks.

A junior from Macon, Sanders was second to Donte Moncrief last year in receiving yards with 504 and in touchdown catches with four. His 39 receptions were third. Moncrief had 66 and Ja-Mes Logan 43.

The most current depth chart has Sanders as the starter at the “Z” wide receiver with Jordan Holder as his backup.

The Rebels signed five wide receivers — including the No. 1 WR prospect in Laquon Treadwell — but two of those have already been moved to defense. Derrick Jones was moved to safety, junior college transfer Quadarias Mireles to cornerback.

In two days of practice Freeze has had high praise for freshman Quincy Adeboyejo, saying yesterday he was “thinking Quincy Adeboyejo will be a special player.”

There was emphasis on the future, not the present.
