No major injuries today. No real change in the lineup of wounded, but that could change soon.
DE Carlos Thompson, who took a hit to the head on Monday, was held out. He’s scheduled for a test today.
C.J. Johnson continues to be worked into practice, though he’s not gone through team work yet. Issac Gross was more active today than he’s been, but I suspect he’s still a ways out.
Here’s what Johnson looks like going through a drill right now:
And here’s what juco transfer defensive tackle Lavon Hooks loooks like:
Right offensive tackle Pierce Burton has been extremely limited since the start of camp but should be back soon. He actually could have gone today, Ole Miss coach Hugh Freeze said, but Freeze is erring on the side of caution.
It’s been interesting to watch the line with Burton out, a picture into what they think of Laremy Tunsil. Most often Emmanuel McCray has moved to Burton’s spot with Tunsil running with the ones at left tackle. Sometimes Robert Conyers will move into the right tackle spot, and McCray will stay put.
With Patrick Junen out Justin Bell has had plenty of chances to take hold of the right guard spot.
Seems to me that Korvic Neat has had several good days of catching the ball. He’s moved up to first team at slow WR since Vince Sanders’ injury moved Ja-Mes Logan to the outside. Neat has at times been inconsistent, but he’s stringing some good practices together now.
So is Laquon Treadwell. The freshman is running No. 2 at the slot and had a really good day today. He was guarded fairly closely when he caught a couple of touchdown passes from freshman Devante Kincade in the skeleton drill. Later in the scrimmage time Treadwell had a TD grab of a 20-something yard pass from Barry Brunetti.
“Laquon had a real good day. He’s starting to understand things more,” Freeze said.
Bo Wallace had another good day passing as well, hitting Logan for a touchdowns on a 20-yard fade. Logan got behind Dehendret Collins. Earlier in the practice Wallace hit a deep ball to Neat.
There was a little more action for Collins more today as he was worked into a few reps with the ones. Most of it came in Red Zone territory.
Robert Nkemdiche continued to run first team, and Channing Ward had a good day as well.
