Ole Miss coach Hugh Freeze proclaimed the second major scrimmage of camp a success and talked about getting ready to turn the page to Vanderbilt.
The scrimmage was largely closed, though we were ushered in to see a few series at the end. It was apparent then that Laquon Treadwell was having a good day, and Freeze talks about him here.
Laremy Tunsil ran with the first team offense at left tackle in place of Emmanuel McCray, who was away on a family matter.
In the snaps that I saw Robert Nkemdiche was working with the second team today.
One of the competitions still on-going is at running back to find a No. 2 behind Jeff Scott.
In the video above Freeze gives a slight lead to Jaylen Walton. In this clip offensive coordinator Dan Werner talks about depth at the position and recalls last season when Randall Mackey was moved to running back to firm up the position.
Ole Miss defensive coordinator Dave Wommack talks about his defense here. A scrimmage can’t be wonderful on both sides of the ball. While Freeze was pleased with the offense, Wommack thought the defense cam out a little flat but picked things up as the day went along.
Wommack is stilll trying to get his cornerbacks to a level he’s comfortable with. He has some good things to say about Dehendret Collins here and says there’s no current plan to play Mike Hilton at corner.
I don’t know how much CJ Johnson worked today, but I saw Cameron Whigham running with the first team there at the end.
There were a number of VIPs around, one of them Archie Manning who watched from a golf cart.
