A few offensive line-themed videos here.
Ole Miss offensive line coach Matt Luke talks about building depth along the line. He says he’s comfortable with four guards right now. Three of those are the two starters plus the Patrick Junen-Justin Bell runner-up at right guard.
The fourth will be senior Jared Duke, who’s had a good camp, or freshman Austin Golson.
I’m sure they would love to redshirt Golson if they feel like they can. Few things make coaches more happy than the thought talented fifth-year offensive lineman.
Regardless of what happens with Golson it appears there are more players Luke trusts right now, and that makes senior left tackle Emmanuel McCray happy.
McCray says the OL took it personal when Bo Wallace got hurt last year, and they want to make sure their quarterback is better protected in 2013.
McCray gets my vote for best quote on the team, by the way.
Speaking of depth, when you have it you can run the tempo offense more. The Rebels were at their best when they were snapping the ball quickly last year, but lack of depth up front and the concern over putting your defense in bad position if you went a fast three-and-out had Freeze opting for a slower pace more than he’d like.
Senior Patrick Junen returned to practice this week and will push Justin Bell for the starting job at right guard.
Junen believes the Rebels will run the tempo offense much more this season.
