Defensive shuffling

Ole Miss coaches are hoping they can settle some issues at cornerback before the Texas game.

The key here will be the health of Senquez Golson has he continues back from a hamstring problem. Hugh Freeze says Golson is getting better, and he says the Rebels are a different team when Golson is at the field corner position.

Here’s Golson:

The Rebels may get a look at several new options at corner, but they may not learn much. Southeast Missouri State is a I-AA team, but it’s also a I-AA team that will prefer to keep the ball on the ground whenever possible.

The Redhawks attempted just 19 passes in their 45-7 loss at Southeastern Louisiana.

Getting better at corner will come from practice more than the game. Three names to be aware of this week are Anthony Standifer, listed No. 3 at field corner last week, freshman Bobby Hill and sophomore Mike Hilton, who is moving from Huskie to corner.

There’s also shuffling at linebacker as the staff tries to replace Denzel Nkemdiche.

There’s more experience to work with there in Serderius Bryant and Keith Lewis. The shuffling does require Lewis, the backup at middle, to move back over to Stinger. That brings DT Shackelford back from end to MLB.

There’s depth enough at end to handle that. I’m wondering if it might mean more snaps for Channing Ward.

Lewis played Stinger before moving to middle and believes that previous experience will help him now.

Mississippi should have the opportunity to explore with defense this weekend, i doubt SEMO will be able to score 20 points against that defense. Then, at Texas, Mississippi defense could see 50 plus points score against them.

Not to overlook SEMO , but we all know all the sharkfins have to do is roll the helmet out. Texas just may get upset? by BYU this Saturday…Sharkfins will have a shot at overrated Longhorns.

I think that each SEC team should play a full 12 game slate of SEC teams! Then you would have a true champion!

I must respectful disagree with you here, I think that this arrangement would still leave an imblance of a team’s exposure . That would mean one SEC team need play the other SEC 13 teams leaving no room for an at large team on the schedule. Today the top 25 teams were announced in a USA today poll, six (6) SEC teams in the top 12, 3 teams from East and 3 from West SEC. Something as you mention would be unfair to teams like Ole Miss who are starting to rebuild its national fame and they need to meet teams at large across the USA. Same as for your Miss State Dawgs they need national exposure.to show off their talent and draw attention to the nation for what they are all about.. Anyway leave it along for the time being, the system is working ok.
