Scott and the option

The read option requires not only Bo Wallace to make the right reads, it requires Jeff Scott and other running backs to trust, to let Wallace put the ball in their gut, then have the restraint not to grab it and carry out the play.

They have to let Wallace make the call, and the play is successful, because Wallace and Scott have run it over and over and over in practice.

Scott talks about the read option and other topics here including last year’s Texas game:

Boosted by his 75-yard game-winning touchdown Scott had 138 rushing yards against Vanderbilt.

In limited play against SEMO he added 28 yards on four carries.

Scott went into the season talking about wanting to rush for 1,000 yards. If he maintains his average yards per carry — no easy task with the defenses coming into view — he should accomplish that goal.

Through two games Scott is average 10.4 yards on 16 attempts.

Barry Brunetti is the Rebels’ second-leading rusher with 115 yards on 20 carries, a 5.8-yard average. Brunetti has three rushing touchdowns, all from inside the 5.

Here’s an interesting stat through two games: Donte Moncrief is the team’s third-leading receiver with seven catches. Laquon Treadwell leads with 11, and Ja-Mes Logan has eight. Tight end Evan Engram also has seven catches.
