Highlights from Ole Miss coach Hugh Freeze’s time on the SEC teleconference …
On visiting Texas
I think it’s a great opportunity for our young kids to go into an environment outside of conference play, a team I know will be playing with a chip on its shoulder. It’s certainly a measuring stick.
On Texas defensive changes
This is my first experience with this and it is an uncomfortable feeling. When you’re a play caller you like to have a plan for what they have shown in third down, red zone and critical situations It’s somewhat difficult to prepare for that right now. It is somewhat unsettling.
On David Ash
He’s a really good player. He threatens you in every way he can. You’re not going to stop him totally, the type of offense they run with the personnel they have. You just hope you can contain him from explosive plays and win third down a fair amount of the time.
(Case) McCoy is good too. Whichever one plays or if both play, we’ve got our hands full.
On Last year’s Texas film
I know our defensive staff watched it fairly closely in the summer. They are a different offense than when they came in here last year. It was more 2-back physical, downhill football. This year it’s more spread, tempo stuff. We’re kind of preparing for both. They really had their way with us running the football last year.
