Charles Sawyer is once again team member in good standing for Ole Miss. Sawyer was suspended for one game — at Texas — following his arrest for DUI and running a stop sign following the Southeast Missouri game.
He’s back with the team assuming he completed his punitive requirements as Freeze believed he had when last we spoke on Monday.
Even when Sawyer is back he won’t necessarily step right into a starting role.
Freeze praised sophomore Mike Hilton for his play at Texas, and Hilton’s confidence took that like a bolt of lightning. Hilton’s an excitable fellow anyway. He talks about his confidence at his new position in this video:
Whether Sawyer starts or not he’ll play. There’s too much experience there at a position that’s too thin for Sawyer to be kept on the sideline.
He’ll at least come back and quickly be part of a rotation.
Hilton’s move, though, is an example of Freeze and his staff creating depth where they had very little. The move was made possible because of their confidence in freshman Tony Conner at the Huskie position where Hilton was already an effective starter.
