Hilton’s confidence

Charles Sawyer is once again team member in good standing for Ole Miss. Sawyer was suspended for one game — at Texas — following his arrest for DUI and running a stop sign following the Southeast Missouri game.

He’s back with the team assuming he completed his punitive requirements as Freeze believed he had when last we spoke on Monday.

Even when Sawyer is back he won’t necessarily step right into a starting role.

Freeze praised sophomore Mike Hilton for his play at Texas, and Hilton’s confidence took that like a bolt of lightning. Hilton’s an excitable fellow anyway. He talks about his confidence at his new position in this video:

Whether Sawyer starts or not he’ll play. There’s too much experience there at a position that’s too thin for Sawyer to be kept on the sideline.

He’ll at least come back and quickly be part of a rotation.

Hilton’s move, though, is an example of Freeze and his staff creating depth where they had very little. The move was made possible because of their confidence in freshman Tony Conner at the Huskie position where Hilton was already an effective starter.

I’m just saying that the Texas job will be open, the money is good…up to $4,000,000.00. The Longhorns for Change are looking at Oxford. Texas is a top 5 job for a football coach.

Ain’t gonna happen Cidley. Because Hugh Freeze is from Mississippi and not Michigan or wherever in the hello Mullens or Meyer or Miles is from. Hugh is a ‘home boy’ born and raised and growing up a die hard Rebel. This is his dream and he will be in Oxford as long as he wants, provided he keeps the program at a competitive level.

  • Stuff it Cid

Cid, we’ve heard you. Now quit being an ass dragon. We understand that Texas has more money than God and that it’s a big job. Quit posting nonsense that is unrelated to the article, please.

Sorry, I thought this was an Ole Miss sports blog. Since the Texas media is promoting Hugh Freeze as a possibility as Mack Brown’s replacement, I thought it might pertain to Ole Miss.#olemissprobation2014

Cid, honestly, you’re doing more than promoting it – you’re shoving it down the throats of Rebel fans. Then the ‘explanations’ offered are a watered-down version of relentless jabbing. There’s no question, you are aware of your motives. It’s becoming quite obvious, your objective is to see how many Ole Miss fans you can rile up and get to respond.

Kbzzzzz, you could be right. I never said Freeze was leaving. I am just saying that Texas will consider him. That’s a complement by the way. Saying that Freeze is on the Texas short list. What’s wrong with that? Chill.
