One of the more interesting tid-bits from Tuesday was offensive line coach Matt Luke telling us that senior left tackle Emmanuel McCray would begin to play more on the inside at guard.
That’s a move made possible by the continued rise of freshman Laremy Tunsil at left tackle.
Luke has always said he’s about playing his best five linemen regardless of position.
The interior has been a work in progress because of injuries in August. It’s also the only position where a starter did not return, that begin A.J. Hawkins at right guard.
There have been lots of bodies there when healthy — Justin Bell, Patrick Junen, senior Jared Duke and freshman Austin Golson.
It will be interesting to see what role might develop at guard for McCray. He’s played the position before, but it’s been a while.
Though they’re better than last year, this is still a group that needs to develop more physicality in short-yardage situations. McCray might help improve that.
