Tuesday Morning Update

Spanning the globe on a Tuesday morning …

Brent Zwerneman, a friend of the program so to speak, as it relates to The Ole Miss Beat on Rebel Sports Radio, says the SEC, once known for its dynamic defenses, is translating into a league of shootouts.

Zwerneman covers Texas A&M for the San Antonio and Houston newspapers.

Speaking of shootouts, it’s all about Johnny Manziel for Texas A&M. Bleacher Report says Manziel should be considered a front-runner to win a second-straight Heisman Trophy this season.

And speaking of the Aggies, WR Ryan Swope was a big part of the A&M offense last year, a security blanket for Manziel, a guy you knew was not going to drop the football if you gave him a decent pass. Swope had two catches for 58 yards and a touchdown against Ole Miss last year. Here’s the NFL.com account of Swope’s career ending before it started due to lingering concussion symptoms.

Elsewhere in the SEC …

While there’s a lot of talk about Johnny Manziel, LSU offensive tackle Vadal Alexander says his quarterback is Heisman worthy …

Bleacher Report says Butch Jones has Tennessee on its way to becoming an SEC contender. It wasn’t that long ago that the Vols were obliterated by Oregon. Since then Tennessee has risen to No. 3 in the SEC in total defense. …

Speaking of the Pac-12, how about this:

Paul Finebaum calls Auburn’s Gus Malzahn the SEC’s coach of the year … right now. …

From John Clay of the Lexington Herald-Leader, video of Kentucky coach Mark Stoops talking about the Wildcats’ matchup with No. 1 Alabama. …

From Bleacher Report, six reasons by Missouri upsets Georgia this weekend. The first thing that comes to mind for me is the Bulldogs’ injuries. …
