Big Picture: It won’t be a huge RPI boost for Ole Miss, but Middle has a great program, and nobody should know that more than Ole Miss players and fans.
The Rebels let RPI opportunities slip away against Kansas State and Oregon and will make resume building really more difficult if they drop another non-conference game, and there’s still a high-quality foe remaining in Dayton.
Turning Point: After Middle went up by six with roughly 7 1-2 minutes left, Marshall Henderson hit a bit 3-point shot to keep the Rebels in striking distance. The responded by finally stringing together a couple of defensive stops in the post where Middle had dominated the game.
The Blue Raiders had a 4-27 edge on the glass and 22 second-chance points. Ole Miss responded with 12 fastbreak points off 14 turnovers while committing only eight.
Who’s Your Daddy? Although Henderson hit big shots — including his 3 with 30 seconds left to seal the deal — Jarvis Summers was more consistent. Summers was 7-for-11 from the floor, 3-for-5 from 3-point range for 25 points.
Of Interest: LaDarius White had another nice offensive game with 11 points on 4-for-9 shooting. White needs to do a better job of finishing at the rim, but his increased offense is a must as Derrick Millinghaus has not been a consistent threat and was held to two points on 1-for-5 shooting. Aaron Jones had a nice game with 10 points, four rebounds, two blocked shots and two steals.
Next Up: The Rebels are at home Wednesday night at 6 against Louisiana-Monroe.
Marshall Henderson didn’t score for the first three-fourths of the half but has eight points and four assists at the break. He’s 2-for-4 from 3. Seems more interested in driving and passing today. He must have read my update during the week.
Jarvis Summers leads all scorers with 12 points on 3-for-7 shooting. He’s 5-for-6 from the free throw line.
Middle is guarding hard and at times has given Ole Miss problems with physical defense on the perimeter.
The Blue Raiders have scored 10 points on dunks with lob passes at the goal.
A little more than a half our from tip. Here’s some video from the Ole Miss shootaround. No noticeable suspensions or absences. Freshman Dwight Coleby is dressed. He didn’t play against Oregon (lower leg injury) and earlier in the week was considered questionable for today.
