Henderson’s shooting tips from dad help against Mizzou

Marshall Henderson gets fired up against Missouri.

Before going off on Missouri with an 8-for-15 day from 3-point range, his best percentage game in SEC play and second-best of the season, Marshall Henderson had hit six of his last 21 3-point attempts.

He’d also gotten a few words from his father.

“My dad, he’s always the one I can fall back on to tell me what I’m doing wrong. Lately he’s been saying that my upper body’s bent back a little bit, and I haven’t been jumping high. Whenever I get good elevation on my shot, that’s when it’s at its prime,” Henderson.

His dad, Willie Henderson, was also his high school coach in Hurst, Texas.

Henderson shot 42.1 percent from 3 at Tennessee on Jan. 29 but followed that up by going 2-for-9 at home against South Carolina.

He was 4-for-12 at Kentucky (33.3 percent) but had shot better than 33.3 percent just once in five games prior to Missouri.

In SEC play, his best games have been followed by his worst ones. After shooting 50 percent against LSU he shot 25 percent; after shooting 42.1 percent at Tennessee he shot 22.2 percent. Both times the next opponent was South Carolina.

Henderson leads the SEC in 3-point makes at 4.5 per game and is currently ninth in 3-point percentage at 37.2.

Ole Miss plays at Alabama Tuesday night at 8 on ESPNU. The Crimson Tide is fourth in the league in 3-point defense at 30.7 percent per game.

Marshall may go down as one of the best players ever to come out of OM, but let’s just be honest with ourselves for a minute. If he wasn’t hitting big shots to help win games, this goof would have been off the team last year. He has gotten away with more garbage than any other play in the history of OM! I hope that the next time he pulls a stunt, they kick his scrawny, drug abusing butt off campus for good!

    PA,
Hope all is well and thank you for your continued coverage. I think the next two games are essential if the Rebs are to make the tourney. Ole Miss is above average in the SEC and with the win over Missouri it is now time to separate yourselves from the rest of the pack. Winning on the road in Bama and Athens will go along way in helping there cause. We just can’t afford these type of losses and the momentum it carries will help the following week when we really need to steal one from Gators or Cats…….

Thanks Flareb. This is a big week against teams that are better than they might appear on the surface.
