Denzel Nkemdiche, Serderius Bryant arrested, suspended

Ole Miss linebackers Denzel Nkemdiche and Serderius Bryant, both named second-team All-SEC players by The Associated Press, were arrested over the weekend, Oxford police have confirmed.

And both have been suspended by Ole Miss coach Hugh Freeze who is out of town and says he will continue to sort out the facts.

In a statement issued through the school Freeze said, “We are aware of the incidents and gathering facts. Denzel and Serderius are suspended until we know more.”

Nkemdiche faces misdemeanor charges of disturbing the peace and disorderly conduct following an incident at a local apartment complex, The Retreat.

Bryant was arrested Friday night on the square for public drunk and disturbing the peace.

These are the third and fourth arrests of Ole Miss football players this off-season. Nkemdiche and Bryant would be the most prominent names.

Reserve cornerback Bobby Hill, a rising sophomore, was charged with sexual battery in January, and last week Aberdeen native Channing Ward pleaded guilty to DUI.

Nkemdiche had this to say on Twitter a earlier today:

Nkemdiche had 35 tackles, two tackles for loss, a fumble recovery and a forced fumble in an injury-plagued 2013 season. He appeared in 10 games with six starts at outside linebacker.

He was second-team All-SEC by The Associated Press in 2012 and 2013.

Bryant appeared in 11 games, starting seven, and led the team in tackles with 78 and in tackles for loss with 12.5. He also had three sacks, three quarterback pressures and three forced fumbles.

He was named AP All-SEC in 2013.

Is this just the tip of the iceberg with player behavior under the Freeze regime? Is Freeze too soft of a coach to handle his own players even when he’s out of town? Hopefully he makes these guys run until they puke and then make them run some more! I understand that things happen but these football players have to understand that they are under the microscope far more than the average college student.

Panic, I’m guess this is the base of the iceberg rather than the tip. We’ll see.

Your little snide remark of ‘regime’ tells me where you’re coming from and that’s not Ole Miss.
Hugh Freeze is an outstanding coach and gentleman who was recently named Grant Teaff Coach of the Year by the Fellowship of Christian Athletes.
He will deal with this situation in an adult manner.
