Wear and tear on Summers

How might the absence of Derrick Millinghaus, the backup point guard, affect Jarvis Summers?

It could show up on offense. Summers had 20 points against Alabama, going 5-for-15 from the field, 9-for-10 from the free throw line.

He was 1-for-6 from 3-point range. They say when the legs go, shooting goes, and Summers played 38 minutes.

He’s aware of how his role changes with Millinghaus out and admits to trying to save his legs at points during a game.

“I just kind of save it like on offense, tell somebody else to make plays or put someone else in a situation to make plays. That’s basically it,” he said.

LaDarius White moves into the backup point guard role, but Ole Miss coach Andy Kennedy wants to ride Summers as hard as he can.

“He’s got to play heavy minutes in lieu of the announcement this afternoon. He’s got to play heavy minutes. You want to play your best players, and if you look at what Alabama did, what A&M does, Arkansas does, they typically play their best players down the stretch. Jarvis just has to stay out of foul trouble. We were going to play Snoop some at the Backup 1. We didn’t have to get to that situation simply because Jarvis was able to play heavy minutes.”

Ole Miss is on the road Saturday night at 6 at Texas A&M.

Its time that Summers steps up in a big way. Next year, this should be his team to take to the tourney. He should learn to be comfortable in the spot light now so that next year, when Henderson is gone, he won’t have much difficulty moving into that “star” role.

Summers is the only good shooting front court player on the team…Henderbrick ‘s 37%, and I’m rounding up his percentage, ain’t worth a poop flavored popsicle.

Summers is a guard, not a front court player. Oh, and 37% is not bad for recreational basketball so you shouldn’t be so down on your boyfriend. This blog, however, is for Ole Miss sports, not talkiing about your boyfriend and how he tastes to you.

Oh, Cid Riley does hope the felonious football players stay out of the hoosegow this weekend. That would back to back crime free weekends!! The streak has begun.

I would imagine so. I guess it makes you realize how scrawny you are when your cellmate is a football player. Maybe you’ll get lucky and some drag queens will be arrested and share your cell with you this weekend.
