Basketball opinions, football update

From the Mother Ship this morning …

A once-promising basketball season is floating adrift and needs to be fixed with a dose of recruiting. Hopefully for the Rebels the toughness Andy Kennedy calls for will show itself in the in-coming recruits.

The Rebels also need to find someone to absorb the near-20 points a game they’ll lose when Marshall Henderson is gone. As for Henderson, they could use him to regain his shooting touch tomorrow and against Vanderbilt and in next Thursday’s SEC tournament opener.

Those two games will decide if there’s more basketball to be played this season. …

From the football side of things, the race for No. 2 is wide open, Hugh Freeze says. He’s like what he’s seen in the early going from a group of candidates vying to be the backup to Bo Wallace.

Whoever the winner is will have no game experience when the Rebels open the season, but it’s a good group that brings different things to the table. ..
