It’s MSU and Ole Miss in the SEC tournament

It’s a date!

Mississippi rivals Ole Miss and Mississippi State will play for the third time this season in Thursday’s late game at the SEC tournament.

The matchup became official minutes ago when the Bulldogs snapped a 13-game losing streak with an 82-68 win over Vanderbilt.

It will be the first neutral-court meeting between the Bulldogs and Rebels since 2003, when the Bulldogs won 73-64 in an SEC tourney game in New Orleans.

Ole Miss and MSU each won their home games this season. The Bulldogs won 76-72 in Starkville on Jan. 11. The Rebels won 82-63 in Oxford on Jan. 25.

The X factor here will be Marshall Henderson. The Rebels missed his 19 points-per-game average while losing by four on the road as Henderson sat out one of the two SEC games of his three-game suspension.

Henderson had 19 points, four assists and four steals in Oxford. However, he was just 2-for-12 from 3-point range. He was 5-for-5 from inside the arc and finished 7-for-17 from the floor.

Jarvis Summers also had 19 points, and LaDarius White added 11.

The Oxford game had the added intrigue of Rick Ray’s inappropriate comments to Henderson caught on camera as Henderson was leaving the floor. Ray quickly apologized after the game.

Summers had 23 points against MSU in Starkville. White had 16 and Derrick Millinghaus 15.

There is ABSOLUTELY no way Miss. St. wins this game. Not with 7 scholarship players. But, then again there was no way they coulda won the EGG BOWL with a freshman QB. Tonight it’s David vs. Goliath, but David has no weapon.

Bragging rights for the magnolia state – Who is the best basketball team in Mississippi, will it be the boyz at Starksville or the up and down gang from oxford? my guess is the Dawgs at Miss State .

    • Killer_Beeze

      Wrong-Oh JB.
Ole Miss would’ve won in Starkville had referee Doug “Turn the State Foul Clock Off” Shows, Jr. called the multiple fouls on the Rebels in the last 2 minutes (when they actually led in the contest) of the game w/o Marshall Henderson.
In Oxford, with Marshall, the Rebels blew the doggies away by 19 points.
I’m looking for another lopsided win by Coach AK & the boyz tonight. :))

Speaking of crappy officiating, how bad did Vandy get it up their tailpipe, when the Sharks escape with a win vs Vandy?!? That was the most abhorrent cheating ever witnessed.

        • bob

You think that a point guard is a “front court player” so why should anyone believe that you are in a position to judge official’s decisions?

          • Killer_Beeze

Bob…that maroon koolaid must taste real good.

I got some Kool-Aid and a long straw for you to guzzle down.

and here’s why I rarely read parish’s blog any more. He allows such trashy talk and name calling to stay in the comments section.

Bob, the comment has been removed. I remove offensive language and name-calling when I see it.

i will probably lose my final comment posting of the month here on DJ, but i will do it in proudly in defense of Parish Alford (PA) and his ole miss blog, I came on this blog many years back when i was an avid ole miss fan and supporter, living out of state and not much ole miss sporting news floating around in our neck of the wood. i enjoyed Pa reporting and it kept me aware of what was going up there in ole miss sports. PA as i see it spent much of his valuable time away from his family just to bring rebel sporting news to its fans and foes..rebel foes have a right to respond to any comment they disagree with and rebutal from Rebs obviously , but it should be kept clean and responsible. SO thanks PA and DJ for a;lowing me my final comment. I must say go Diamond rebels i believe its your year, and for the basketball team your time is getting short for this season. Never did care much for rebel basket, the late Cobb Jarvis was my man . thanks for letting have my say.

Well said, well written…Sir JB. I will honor your request and keep it clean. It’s just hard for me to do that, when idiots nip at my short hairs, but I respect you and will do my best.

just like you’ll honor your many promises to leave and not come back?

Who is Cid Riley? and what’s that got to do with me?

          • sam

honesty isn’t exactly your strong suit, is it?

          • Karl Hungus

Honesty? Ole Miss hangs banners celebrating national championships that they didn’t win. Lure recruits in with $ and escorts “allegedly”?, allow players to keep playing when they’ve been busted for cocaine,”allegedly”, allow players to keep playing after brutally beating a defenseless drunk, “allegedly”..that’s honesty?

          • Karl Cid Riley Fungus

go ahead, I’d try to defer the discussion away from me if I were you as well.

JB, what a great way to spend your final comment, thanks. As I recall, you were the first person to comment with any regularity when the blog began back in 2006. You used to mix it up with a fellow who called himself Rebel Blues. Come back next month, and better yet, start telling your family to get you the DJ web access, a few months at a time, for Christmas and birthdays.

Bob, regarding offensive posts, the freedom to post is something we take seriously, and I am not authorized to delete them. When I see them I let our web editor know, and he is working to delete two those posts now. We try to draw the line at offensive language and name-calling.

          • bob

It is always obvous when you lose a debate… you start name calling. Thanks for conceding.

Being an OM grad this is hard to say, however the best team in MS is playing tonight in El Paso not Hotlanta.

I’ve been called every name there is. I don’t concede nothing. Fight til the end, baby!!

You can tell it’s Friday, cause obviously you all have cashed the welfare checks, bought extra minutes on your phones and purchased crystal meth with what was left.
