Tuesday Morning Update

Spanning the globe on a Tuesday morning …

Ole Miss picked up a basketball commitment Monday in South Plains CC’s (think Marshall Henderson juco) Rod Lawrence, an athletic 6-4 wing.

I found it interesting that Lawrence expects to start at the 3. If so, that would mean more time at the 4 for Anthony Perez, which is not Perez’ natural position nor is it the place he prefers to play.

Here’s what Lawrence told Ben Garrett of The Ole Miss Spirit:

“(Kennedy) told me he was recruiting me to become a starter, start at the three, and that I’m going to play valuable minutes and be one of the leaders on the team.”

No word on Tennessee State power forward M.J. Rhett as of yet. The first day of the spring signing period is Wednesday. …

Ole Miss does not have a non-conference game leading to its SEC home series against LSU which begins on Thursday, not Friday. Game 1 will be televised by ESPNU. Start times are 6:30 Thursday, 6:30 Friday and 1:30 on Saturday.

LSU does play at non-league game — tonight in Metairie against Southern Miss — and will then drive through the night to Memphis for a children’s hospital visit on Wednesday.

It all adds up to what LSU coach Paul Maineri calls a “challenging week.”

Think spring games don’t matter? Clemson coach Dabo Swinney booted a highly recruited quarterback over a spring game issue. Well, that was the most recent issue in what Swinney called a “pattern.” …

From Baton Rouge, LSU freshman QB Brandon Harris will head to California for some special training. …

Now former Missouri wide receiver Dorial Green-Beckham needs discipline, not help, writes SI.com. …

Not all of Kentucky’s basketball players are going to the NBA. Willie Cauley-Stein mentions getting closer to his degree in his decision to return. …

Squidward is taking the Freeze approach to recruiting. Seriously, how can you guarantee a recruit that he will start. What if he doesn’t work hard, or doesn’t pan out. Highly questionable. But now Squidward has promised him, so he has to start, right?

Game 3 will be carried “live” at 1pm Saturday on Sports South.
Rebels need to keep the gas pedal to the floor board and win the upcoming series. #7 versus #10 doesn’t get any better.

What about this season’s Ole Miss football recruiting class, was it as good as last season? i have not heard anything about this season recruiting.

JB, this year’s recruiting class was good, but can’t compare with last year’s. With the NCAA investigators closely watching, the alleged money men had to remain in the shadows…no money, no #1 recruits. Also, last season’s lackluster performance turned some recruits off. I expect a continued drop in recruiting as the cloud of the NCAA investigation continues to hover over the program.

Karl, thanks for the info, one would think as much trouble ole miss has had with ncaa investigations in the past they would have learned their lesson by now. the University of doctors and lawyers, doctors doing
good but some of the lawyers employed as field hands at Parchment INDUSTRIES, so I have heard..
