Golson transfer becomes official

Ole Miss coach Hugh Freeze released this statement a few minutes ago on sophomore offensive lineman Austin Golson.

Golson’s desire to transfer had become a public discussion within the last month. Now it’s official.

From Freeze: “Austin Golson has informed us he has decided to move closer to his family and is choosing to walk on at Auburn, following normal transfer rules. We wish him the very best.”

The health of grandparents is involved in Golson’s decision which should make him a candidate for a hardship waiver of the NCAA’s one-year residency rule for transfers. Golson — who left spring drills as No. 1 at right tackle for Ole Miss — could be a starting tackle for Auburn when the defending SEC champs visit Oxford on Nov. 1.
