The Rebels clinch the series, clinch the second-most SEC regular season wins (19-10) under Mike Bianco and will try to tie that mark in Game 3 tomorrow at 2:05 p.m.
The Rebels have clinched a share of the SEC West title with MSU, which defeated Alabama 1-0 tonight. Ole Miss has the tie-breaker with MSU should the two rivals finish tied after tomorrow’s play. The Rebels have clinched the No. 2 seed in next week’s SEC tournament.
Ole Miss has now won seven of the 10 SEC regular season series including four straight.
Ole Miss left-hander Christian Trent became the second Ole Miss starter in two days to finish the regular season unbeaten. Trent improved to 8-0 though he pitched only five innings. He scattered eight hits but did not walk a batter and gave up two runs, both earned.
Scott Weathersby allowed one hit, no runs, no walks and struck out three over the final four innings. When you think of the job the Ole Miss bullpen has done in the last three SEC games it makes some of those game-closing issues from early in the season seem like a long time ago.
The Rebels had eight hits, three of them by Will Allen, who also had an RBI. J.B. Woodman had an RBI triple, and Auston Bousfield also had an RBI hit.
The Rebels trailed 2-1 after five innings when they put up two runs in the sixth then added an insurance run in the ninth.
