South Carolina, Mississippi State, Texas A&M and Tennessee on tap for today.
Here’s more from Day 1, starting with a couple of Vanderbilt videos.
Defensive lineman Albert Butler says new coach Derek Mason is talking about winning championships at Vanderbilt:
I don’t know how many coaches and players drive to Media Days. Maybe Auburn and Alabama. I know Vanderbilt’s contingent was driving yesterday, because they sat across from us at Full Moon and left about the same time.
Here’s Commodores tight end Stephen Scheu. He caught a 35-yard touchdown pass with less than 2 minutes to play last year that put Vanderbilt ahead 35-32. At the time it looked like it might be a game-winning catch.
Jeff Scott’s 75-yard touchdown run with 1:07 to play was ultimately the game-winner in a 39-35 Ole Miss victory. The Rebels still had to hold off a Vanderbilt challenge after that.
On opening night for 2013 it was a huge play that still stings at Vanderbilt. VU players talk about that here.
Vanderbilt rallied and won nine games on the season. Ole Miss went 7-5 in the regular season, 8-5 overall. That was tangible improvement from Hugh Freeze’s first year that would not have occurred had they not won in Nashville.
Ole Miss and Vanderbilt meet in Nashville again, this time at the Titans’ LP Field downtown, on Sept. 13 in Week 2.
Also from Opening Day in Hoover:
Defending SEC champ Auburn is feeling a good kind of pressure.
And a former Ole Miss assistant is leading what Will Muschamp hopes — and needs to be — an offensive revival at Florida.
